She landed in Heathtrow. They met. She needed to see him again to be sure, she said. But deep down she had already made her choice, long before boarding. Long before the Atlantic was a washed away memory in the rearview mirror. She meant it more as a contingency plan, I suppose. Or as something she tells herself to ease the guilt. This whole idea that she would decide there and then where to go next. Visiting Wendy was just a front, isn't it obvious? She was headed far out east all along. But how could you have known that, you were a child. Almost twenty years later: are you still one?
